That’s exactly how my Sage & Honey Creamed Hominy recipe was born. Equipment

  • 1 large pot

Ingredients

  • 2 cans of drained white hominy
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 5 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp ground sage
  • 2 tbsp raw honey

Instructions

  • Make the Roux: In a medium pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Slowly whisk in the cornstarch, creating a smooth paste (roux).
  • Add Coconut Milk & Seasonings: Gradually pour in the coconut milk while continuously whisking until the roux is fully incorporated. Add salt, pepper, sage, and honey, stirring to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 3-5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  • Add Hominy: Gently stir in the drained hominy, making sure it’s evenly coated in the creamy mixture.
  • Cook & Thicken: Lower the heat to a simmer, cover with a lid, and let it cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until it reaches your desired thickness.
  • Serve: Serve warm as a side dish or main course. Enjoy this Southern comfort dish with a unique hint of sweetness and savory sage.
