Equipment

  • 1 Large Skillet
  • 1 Vegetable Masher
  • 1 Large Spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 cups already cooked pinto beans or canned beans
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • a bit of juice from the cooked or canned pinto beans

Instructions

  • Preparing the Beans
Begin by straining the cooked pinto beans from their juice. This step ensures that your refried beans have the perfect consistency.
  • In a skillet, heat about 2 tablespoons of cooking oil over medium heat.
  • Adding the Beans and Spices
Now it's time to add your strained pinto beans to the skillet. While stirring and mashing the beans with a masher, mix them thoroughly with the salt and pepper. This process helps release their flavors and creates the classic refried bean texture.
  • Adding Moisture
To ensure the refried beans have the desired consistency, add about 1/4 cup of the bean juice or water to the skillet. This will help create a creamy and velvety texture, making every bite a delight.
  • Savoring the Flavors
Continue cooking and stirring the mixture for about 7-10 minutes, or until the refried beans reach your desired consistency. Keep in mind that they will thicken slightly as they cool.
  • Once the refried beans are cooked to perfection, remove them from the heat and serve.
