Equipment

  • 1 deep fryer or large frying pot
  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Small Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds raw medium Gulf shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 packet chipotle seasoning blend
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 tbsp dried dill
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • Tortillas for tacos
  • Optional toppings: pickled onions, coleslaw, fresh veggies

Instructions

  • Prep the Shrimp: Begin by peeling and deveining the Gulf shrimp if not already prepared.
  • Mix the Breading: In a large shallow dish, combine 3 cups of flour, chipotle seasoning blend, smoked paprika, cumin, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Set aside.
  • Egg Wash: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
  • Coat the Shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the egg wash, then roll it in the seasoned flour mixture until fully coated.
  • Fry the Shrimp: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large frying pot on medium heat. Fry the coated shrimp until they turn golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain excess oil on paper towels.
  • Prepare the Sour Cream Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the sour cream, dried dill, and fresh lemon juice to create a tangy lemon-dill sauce.
  • Assemble the Tacos: Place a handful of fried shrimp into each tortilla, then top with shredded Mexican blend cheese and a generous dollop of the lemon-dill sour cream sauce.
  • Optional Toppings: Add pickled onions, coleslaw, or your favorite veggies for extra texture and flavor.
  • Serve: Enjoy the tacos fresh with a wedge of lemon for added brightness.
