Southern Style Chickpeas – A Hearty, Healthy Dish for Any Occasion

Today, I’m sharing a new favorite from my Southern kitchen—Slow Cooked Southern Style Chickpeas. This wholesome, flavorful dish captures the heart of Southern comfort food while being packed with nutrition.

Whether you’re looking for a warm, satisfying meal for cool evenings or something healthy that fits into a vegan or vegetarian diet, this recipe checks all the boxes.

A Southern Twist on Chickpeas

What makes this dish so special? It’s the infusion of bold Southern flavors. I cook the chickpeas low and slow with ingredients like minced garlic, onions, bell peppers, and dried basil, letting the flavors meld together for a rich, savory profile.

I also add Badia Complete seasoning, one of my go-to blends, and chicken bouillon cubes for extra depth. The result is tender, creamy chickpeas with a hint of Southern warmth in every bite.

For this recipe, I use:

  • dry chickpeas
  • 1water
  • minced garlic
  • chicken bouillon
  • diced onion
  • diced bell pepper
  • dried basil
  • Badia Complete seasoning

The Cooking Process – Set It and Forget It!

One of the best parts about this recipe is how effortless it is to make. I use my trusty slow cooker, which not only brings out the depth of flavors but also makes it incredibly easy.

Simply toss all the ingredients into the slow cooker, set it on low, and let it cook for 12 hours. The long, slow cooking process ensures that the chickpeas absorb all the delicious seasonings, creating a creamy texture and bold, Southern-inspired taste.

If you’re cooking for a crowd or want leftovers for the week, this recipe is perfect. You can also customize it by adding other veggies or seasonings to suit your taste!
