Ghostly Experiences Throughout My Life: Haunted Encounters from Childhood
From a young age, I’ve had my share of paranormal encounters. Some would call it eerie, others terrifying, but for me, it’s just been a part of life. These experiences have followed me through almost every house I’ve ever lived in. One of the earliest and most unforgettable encounters happened when I was just 7 or 8 years old in Big Springs, Texas.
A Haunting in Big Springs, Texas
My family had just moved into my stepdad’s grandmother’s house, and my sister Misty and I were forced to sleep in the dark back room. It wasn’t just any room; it was the very place where David’s (my stepdad’s) grandfather had passed away. We were already feeling uneasy in a new, unfamiliar house, and to make matters worse, my mother shared a spine-chilling experience with me earlier that day.
While washing dishes in the kitchen, my mom suddenly heard a noise. She turned to see dishes flying from the drainer across the room, shattering against the wall. Shaken, she didn’t have an explanation for what had happened, but we both felt that something was wrong.
Later that night, while we were trying to sleep, Misty, who was only 3 or 4 at the time, woke up needing to go to the bathroom. Still frightened, she asked me to come with her, and of course, I did. After she finished, something odd happened. Instead of getting back into bed, Misty stood at the foot of it, staring at the ground, before letting out a scream that could’ve pierced the night air.
Fear Takes Over
Terrified, I grabbed Misty, and we bolted to the living room, where we jumped onto David’s lap, shaking with fear. David, who has always claimed not to believe in ghosts, grabbed a butcher knife, marched into the bedroom, and slashed at the bed’s footboard, muttering to himself in a combination of disbelief and anger. Despite his skepticism, that night made us all question what was happening in that house.
We ended up sleeping in the living room for the rest of the night. But the terror didn’t end there. The next morning, my mother looked uneasy. I asked her what was wrong, and she revealed that after we had gone to bed, she and David were laying down when the old Sear’s box fan they were using suddenly stopped. Upon investigation, they found the fan’s cord had been ripped from the wall. That was the last straw for my mom—we packed up and left that house the very next day, never to return.
A Lifetime of Paranormal Encounters
This experience was just the beginning of many more ghostly encounters to come. From eerie sounds to objects moving on their own, the paranormal seems to have followed me wherever I’ve gone. For years, I’ve tried to rationalize these events, but no matter how hard I try, they remain unexplained.
Stay tuned to Sincere Scribbles, where I’ll be sharing more of these haunting experiences that shaped my childhood and adult life.
