Bottled Water in 2024: Time for a Wake-Up Call

Let me tell y’all something about the bottled water industry. I’m talking straight-up real talk about bottled water today—because I’m heated, friends. Living out here on our little homestead in Tennessee, waiting (and waiting…and waiting) on a permanent water well, we’ve been buying bottled water like it’s going out of style.

Four years in and still no damn water well, so we built a temporary setup pulling water from the creek out back. Now, I’ll wash laundry, dishes, bathe and clean with the creek water, but cook with it and drink it? Nope. Not unless I want to flirt with stomach problems I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

So, here we are, spending a small fortune on bottled water just to stay hydrated and keep the household running for now. But let me tell you, what I just learned about bottled water blew my mind and not in a good way by any means.

Turns out, most of it is loaded with loads and loads of salt. Salt! In the water! I don’t know who decided that was a good idea, but my blood pressure and I have some choice words for them real talk. I thought I was drinking plain filtered water—not some hidden science experiment designed to spike my cholesterol through the damn roof.

Breaking Up with Bottled Water: Why It’s Time to Demand Better

And don’t even get me started on the mountain of plastic waste we’re creating just trying to stay alive out here on our little Southern homestead. Bottled water manufacturers, it is time for you all to listen up: it’s 2024, and this wasteful nonsense has got to stop.

Here’s My Honest Message to the Bottled Water Industry:

  1. Keep It Real Simple, Folks.
Water is just water. It’s not a fancy cocktail, it’s not a scientific project, and it’s definitely not a salt lick. We just want clean, pure, filtered drinking water that won’t mess with our health. If your bottled water needs an ingredients list, you’re doing it completely wrong.
  2. Plastic Is Fully Played Out.
I’m over it all, y’all. The oceans and marine life are choking and drowning in plastic, animals are suffering, and I’ve got a pile of empty bottles in my recycling bin that makes me feel more guilty than hydrated. You’ve got options: bamboo, glass, aluminum—use your brains and get creative. If you can sell us water, surely you can figure out how to package it 100% more sustainably.
  3. Think About the Future For Everyone Who Lives Here.
If I can learn to grow my own bamboo and start making my own products to save money and the planet, what’s your excuse? You’ve got the resources, the technology, and the workforce to lead the charge on 100% eco-friendly practices. Don’t wait for those government regulations or our consumer revolts. Be better than the rest and stand above the crowd—because the world needs better right now.

From Creek to Plastic: My Bottled Water Wake-Up Call

  • Buy Smarter. Look for brands that use glass or aluminum bottles, or better yet, support local companies that deliver water in reusable jugs.
  • Filter at Home. If your tap water is drinkable, invest in a good filtration system and ditch the bottles altogether. It’s cheaper in the long run, and you’ll be doing the planet a favor.
  • Push for Change. Write to these bottled water companies, tag them on social media, and make some noise. If enough of us demand better, they’ll have no choice but to listen.

Let me tell you all something, if bottled water companies don’t step up soon, I’ll be the first woman to swap them out for bamboo bottles filled with my own filtered creek water. They think we’re stuck? Nah not over here honey. We’re smart, resourceful, and a little too stubborn to keep putting up with your nonsense.

So here’s to 2024 and 2025 being the years we stop settling for salty water in useless plastic bottles. Let’s fix this bottled water crisis one choice at a time, friends. We’ve got this.
