Reducing Waste: Sustainable Living Alternatives to Toilet Paper and Paper Towels
As the founder of Sincere Scribbles, I’m on a mission to start more sustainable living and help our planet in any way I can. One of the areas I’ve focused on recently is my shopping habits regarding toilet paper and paper towels. If you’re like me, you might not have thought much about how much waste these products create. So, let me share how I’m changing my habits and embracing more eco-friendly alternatives!
Transitioning from Toilet Paper to Washcloths
To start, I’ve decided to reduce my toilet paper usage by opting for a more sustainable solution: washcloths. Yes, I know what you might be thinking—“Yuck!” But hear me out. I ordered 40 small, super-soft washcloths that I can easily use instead of traditional toilet paper.
I completely understand the concern about mixing them with regular laundry, so I took that into account as well. I found two handy items on TEMU to help manage this new routine:
- A Cute Pink Wash Basin: This will be perfect for hand-washing my small items, ensuring they remain separate from my regular laundry.
- A USB Chargeable Portable Washing Agitator: This gadget can be used in any small bucket or sink, making the cleaning process simple and efficient.
A New Cleaning Routine
Once my washcloths arrive, I plan to set up a small bucket filled with water and laundry liquid beside the toilet for easy disposal. Here’s the process I’ll follow:
- Soak: After use, I’ll place the washcloths in the bucket, allowing them to soak in the soapy solution.
- Pre-Clean: I’ll transfer a few into the wash basin for a quick initial clean.
- Final Wash: Then, I’ll fill the sink with warm water and laundry detergent, place the portable agitator in, and let it work its magic.
- Dry: Finally, I’ll hang them outside on a clothesline to dry.
This way, I can effectively replace traditional toilet paper with a sustainable alternative while reducing waste and preserving our forests!
Reducing Paper Towel Waste
As for paper towels, I’ve never been a heavy user, but I still wanted to find ways to eliminate them altogether. Instead of paper towels, I use kitchen towels that I keep hanging around the kitchen for drying my hands and cleaning up while cooking.
For those who typically use paper towels to hold sandwiches and burgers, I’ve discovered reusable burger and sandwich holder sleeves on TEMU. These handy holders will help eliminate the need for paper towels in my home—except for the occasional use when draining grease from fried foods.
Small Sustainable Living Changes, Make A Big Impact
These small changes may seem simple, but they can have a significant impact on our environment. By reducing our reliance on wasteful products like toilet paper and paper towels, we’re helping to protect our precious natural resources that take years to replenish.
