Haunted Stove: Ghostly Encounters in Bryan, Texas

A few years after our unsettling experiences in Big Springs, Texas, my family and I moved to Bryan, Texas—just 90 miles from Houston. We hoped for a fresh start, but as fate would have it, the paranormal activity followed us.

A Haunted Inheritance

After we settled into our new home, David’s grandmother, the same one whose house in Big Springs had been haunted, passed away. As part of her inheritance, David received an old, black wood-burning stove from her home. It had the classic look of a vintage cooking stove, the kind you’d see in old western movies. We set it up in our dining room, and at first, everything seemed normal. But in just a few short weeks, things began to change, and the eerie happenings returned.

Strange Noises and Unexplained Knocking

At first, it was subtle—just small noises here and there. We lived out in the country, so random sounds weren’t unusual, but some were impossible to explain. Late at night, we’d hear knocking on the back door. The back door, however, was in a fenced-off area with a locked gate. No one could have gotten back there without us knowing. The knocking continued, and though it was unsettling, we brushed it off as just one of those “unexplainable things.”

But the activity didn’t stop there—it escalated.

The Creepy Phone Call

One day, I was home alone, chatting with my friend Beth from school over the phone. I had to be around 9 or 10 years old at the time. I told her I was going to grab something to drink and laid the phone down for just a couple of minutes. When I returned, Beth was hysterical. I had no idea what was wrong and asked her what had happened.

Through her panic, she told me, “Stacy, don’t ever do that to me again!”

Confused, I pressed her for details. That’s when she told me that while I was away, someone came on the phone line. In a deep, disturbing voice, they said, “I’m going to kill you. You are going to die.”

My blood ran cold. There was no one else home but me, and I hadn’t said those words. It couldn’t have been a prank—Beth was a trustworthy friend and would never make something like this up.

The Haunting Continues

What made this incident even more terrifying was that it wouldn’t be the last time we encountered that eerie voice. It lingered, just like the energy tied to that old wood-burning stove. Over the next few months, more unexplained things happened in that house, leading us to believe that the haunted energy from David’s grandmother’s house in Big Springs had followed us to Bryan.
